The children were sleeping at the crib, and I was strapped with an infant to my back. Ha! The house was starting to look good, but there were a few things left. In this undertaking, I was prepared to invest a significant amount of time and money looking for my dream house. In order to stay within my budget, I began going to estate sales with three brothers to search for gems hidden in the dirt. It was our weekly routine to visit garage sales and auctions on Sundays and Saturdays and purchase a range of furniture, both new and old made. It was my job to spend the day in the driveway either painting or sanding. The look was a little similar to the following... This is where my obsession with restoring antique furniture started. After our home was fully decorated, I couldn't quit! There was an area on the market where I sold things. Then, my collection got to the point that the space I had was inadequate. The number of people who visited my house in one weekend to purchase all the things on the ground. It was here that my business Growing Days was born. My company was flourishing, but my family was also expanding. As a mom of a child I was able to strike the right way to be able to begin my own business as well as being a decent mother. Growing Days seemed like the ideal match. Nora joined us in 2013 as our 4th baby. The direction my company was heading was fantastic, but I had to take some time off. I decided to put off building my old furniture and spend time with my children. It was just what I required. But after a couple of months after that, the phone began to call. A lot of people contacted me for help on home improvement and decorating. A majority of them were people who walked into my house at my open house for furniture. While I was working, I added clients each day. But it wasn't that long before I was managing several clients, and had an extremely successful business of home renovation. There is a good chance that I would have laughed if someone had told me the business was going to be part of a forthcoming TV show that airs on the DIY Network. Indeed, I am laughing slightly when I recall the story.
